On May 12th, the board of directors for Stratford Youth Soccer met to discuss the impact that Covid-19 is having on our 2020 soccer season.  At this point the Ontario Soccer Association has suspended all soccer activities up to the end of June.

At this point we are not cancelling our season and we are hopeful that the province will allow some version of our soccer season to happen.

If the province does not allow youth sport activities in 2020, we will offer refunds to all who have registered.

The board of Stratford Youth Soccer are fully aware that some families are experiencing financial hardship and we want to communicate the options available to you at this time.

1.      If you would like a refund now, we are offering them to you with a $25 admin fee.

2.      If you opt to leave the registration fee with Stratford Youth Soccer for enrollment in the 2021 season, then you will not have to pay the inflationary increase that would be charged next year.

3.      If you would like a partial refund and leave some money with Stratford Youth Soccer as a donation, SYS would be extremely grateful as we still have experienced major costs, not having anticipated the effects the virus would have on our soccer programs

Our preferred route would be Option #2.  Although we have been managing the finances prudently, Stratford Youth Soccer is facing a large financial deficit without your assistance.  Please consider this but we understand that for some this won’t be an option.

Stratford Youth Soccer Community

As you are all aware, Ontario Soccer made the difficult but right decision on March 12, 2020, to suspend all sanctioned soccer events and activities in the province indefinitely. Since then we all have been social distancing to ensure the health and safety our players, coaches, match officials, other volunteers and staff.

Like all of you, we are not sure what the 2020 soccer season is going to look like but we are doing our best to be prepared for a potential return to play. To that effect, we have set up a strategic committee to look at various scenarios and continue to meet regularly as the situation develops.

At this time we are not cancelling any of our outdoor programs. In fact, if you are thinking about signing up for one of our summer programs, we would still encourage you to do so to allow us to better plan the resources we may need. We understand that the COVID-19 situation has caused financial hardships for many so we would recommend that if you are going to register you select the “Office Payment” option during registration. If you register from today onward and choose “Office Payment” this will secure your child’s spot and you will not be required to pay your fee until shortly before the season starts (we will communicate payment deadlines to all those who choose this option once more information is available).

We are working closely with our partners and governing bodies to determine the best next steps to ensure all participants can have a safe and healthy return to soccer. Currently, Ontario Soccer has mandated that all soccer activities are cancelled for the month of May and we will update you as further information becomes available.

We strongly encourage you to stay connected with the Stratford soccer community through the SYS website and social media. We will be posting any updates to both our website and social media and are continuing to provide a forum for players and families to connect through our social media to share training ideas and fun ways to stay active. In fact, our coaches have already started posting drills and challenges to help keep your skills sharp! Make sure you like and follow our pages to keep up to date with all of our posts.
